W.R.Hearst was a son of a dad who struck it rich discovering silver in the mountains of San Jose. He loved the sea along Cambriaand after building his funds in the media (newspaper) business, he built a castle for himself, his wives (well, justtwo, I think), and to entertain the Hollywood stars of the day (who would get an invitation to paradise and come in onhis private DC-3 or by boat to the pier). The best splendour of the 1930s, preserved for our viewing. Unfortunately it wasraining that morning and the seaside views from the rooms shrouded by the mist. But the bedrooms look very comfortable indeed!About 2 hours after our tour, the skies had cleared up and it was possible to view the castle from the visitor's center.
